Course information

This module explores how gender and sexuality shape contemporary societies and global politics, showing how these ideas influence everything from personal relationships to international systems. It examines how gendered and sexualised power structures emerge, how they persist, and how they are challenged in different historical and cultural settings. By engaging with feminist, queer, and decolonial theories, students will develop tools to question hegemonic structures, who holds power, and how systems of inequality are maintained or contested. By the end of the course, students will have a deeper understanding of how gender and sexuality are central to global politics and will be equipped to analyse, question, and imagine more equitable futures.
